On Monday, 75-year-old Elliott Uhrich, of Murrieta, was killed while 47-year-old Angel Pineda, also from Murrieta, suffered injuries following a traffic collision on Interstate 215.
The fatal two-vehicle accident took place at around 5:40 p.m. near Clinton Keith Road. The preliminary investigation indicated that Uhrich was in a medical supply van driven by Pineda in the No. 3 lane of the freeway, going at about 60 mph. Pineda came across slowing traffic and slammed on the brakes, but the vehicle swerved to the right shoulder.
A 2009 Nissan Maxima occupied by a 30-year-old Temecula man was parked on the shoulder. Just then, the van rear-ended the Nissan. Uhrich, who was in the back of the van, suffered serious injuries. On arrival, medics rushed Uhrich to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he later succumbed to his injuries approximately five hours later.
Paramedics transported Pineda to Rancho Springs Medical Center in Temecula, where he was provided medical aid for minor injuries and was released. No other details were provided.
An investigation is continuing.
