According to the California Highway Patrol, a motor vehicle accident occurred in Santa Cruz on Tuesday. The crash happened on Highway 17 between Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley at around 6 a.m.
According to the investigators, a Reyes 2003 Acura RSX sport and a 73-year-old were involved in the collision. The Acura driver traveling northbound veered off the roadway for an unknown reason and overturned.
73-year-old Maria Isabel Reyes was identified as the driver who suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Some portions of Highway 17 between Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley are blocked for further investigation. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
No additional information regarding the fatal crash was provided by the Deputies.
