72-year-old man hospitalized after a car went into the canal in Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ)

A 72-year-old man was hospitalized after a car he was driving went into the canal Friday night in Phoenix.

As per the initial information, the single-vehicle accident took place along 56th Street and Indian School Road. On arrival, first responders found the man’s vehicle in the canal in approximately 3 feet of water.

Emergency responders used a mechanical rope system to pull the man to safety. The man was then taken to the hospital in stable condition. It is unknown what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle and end up in the canal. No other information is available.

An investigation is underway.
