According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Monday in Templeton. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.

Authorities stated that the collision occurred on State Route 1 south of Hearst Castle. The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe suddenly made a right turn from a straight course of travel. As a result of this, the front end of the Tahoe collided with a parked and unoccupied Caterpillar Asphalt Compactor.

The driver was identified as 71-year-old Mark Seidel. Seidel sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. The officials have not disclosed if any others were injured in the crash. 

The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
