December 12, 2023 – Nationwide Report®

A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred on Highway 1 in San Simeon, resulting in the death of a Cambria man. The officials later identified the victim to be 71-year-old Mark R. Seidel.

At approximately 8 a.m., Seidel was travelling northbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, south of Hearst Castle. The California Highway Patrol reported that, for reasons yet unknown, the Tahoe veered off the right side of the road. After traversing a wide dirt shoulder, the vehicle collided with a parked and unoccupied Caterpillar Asphalt drum roller.

The fatal crash caused the Tahoe to rebound, turn, and collide with a barbed wire fence. Unfortunately, Seidel was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
