A tragic pedestrian accident in Edinburg is under investigation by local police. On Thursday around 9:41 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of North 25th Avenue and El Cibolo Road.
The initial findings suggest that the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado, travelling northbound in the inside lane, heard a loud impact. He promptly pulled over and discovered blood on his bumper. After a third party, who was following, found a pool of blood, they contacted the police.
Responding officers located a man who was critically injured in the grassy median. The victim, identified as 71-year-old Luis Gonzalez of Edinburg, was pronounced dead shortly after the fatal crash.
Gonzalez was wearing dark clothing at the time. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado is not currently facing criminal charges, pending further investigation.
