A tragic multi-vehicle accident unfolded in Taylor as a 71-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday after colliding head-on with a tractor-trailer. According to Taylor police, James Russell Grenwelge of Hearne was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:36 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Main Street.
Witnesses had alerted authorities after observing Grenwelge driving recklessly in a white 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, traveling north in the southbound lanes of traffic. Despite efforts by police to intercept him, Grenwelge continued driving, ultimately colliding with the tractor-trailer.
The fatal crash left him pinned in his vehicle until emergency responders could extricate him.
Despite medical intervention, Grenwelge succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports to determine if a medical condition contributed to the incident.
