A fatal crash on South Dairy Ashford Road Sunday evening has resulted in charges against Alexander Leiva, 30, for intoxication manslaughter in the 351st State District Court. The incident, occurring around 8:20 p.m., claimed the life of 71-year-old Iris Rodriguez of Houston.
Leiva, driving a black Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on Bissonnet Street, ran a red light at the intersection of South Dairy Ashford, colliding with a silver Nissan Juke making a left turn. The multi-vehicle accident caused the Nissan to strike a grey Honda CRV. Rodriguez, the Nissan driver, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Leiva and his passenger sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized, while the occupants of the Honda were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Leiva’s impairment at the time led to the charges, with investigations ongoing.
