On early Sunday morning, seven people suffered injuries following a traffic accident in Concord.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle crash took place at 12:17 a.m. at the intersection of Willow Pass Road and Port Chicago Highway. The preliminary investigation revealed that one vehicle was heading northbound on Port Chicago Highway and the other vehicle was going westbound on Willow Pass Road. Both the vehicles crashed into each other at the intersection. One vehicle was left smoking and on its side while the other vehicle was wrecked following the collision.
On arrival, medics airlifted three victims to John Muir Hospital with major injuries whereas the other four patients were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals. There was no information available on their conditions early Sunday. Officials shut down both Willow Pass Road and Port Chicago Highway overnight as crews worked to clear the scene. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
