The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported a motor vehicle accident in South Hill on Friday. The accident occurred at a retention pond on Sunrise Parkway just before 3 p.m.

According to the officials, a vehicle had driven down Sunrise Parkway and instead of going along the curve in the road, it continued straight into the grass. The vehicle went over a bush and into the pond.

The driver had called 911 from the car. The officers were not able to bring the car to the surface and so had to wait for divers and the fire department to help.

The driver was discovered in the back seat of the vehicle and taken out of the pond. However, he was fatally injured and died on the way to the hospital.

The victim’s identity is not yet known. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time.
