Early this morning, a tragic two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 434 in St. Tammany Parish claimed the life of 68-year-old Alton Henry of Hammond. Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating the incident shortly after 6:15 a.m.

The crash involved a 2024 Volvo VNL, driven by 28-year-old Ankit Khanci of Fresno, California, and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Henry. The Volvo rear-ended the Chevrolet, causing it to veer off the roadway and collide with a tree.

Henry, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Volvo driver, also unrestrained, remained uninjured. Toxicology samples were obtained, and investigations continue with pending charges.

The investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
