In a tragic incident on Sunday evening, a 67-year-old woman lost her life in Oakland.
The multi-vehicle accident occurred when she was driving a Volkswagen Beetle on the Fruitvale Avenue on-ramp to westbound Interstate Highway 580 at approximately 5:41 p.m. Regrettably, she collided with the rear-end of a Chevrolet SUV.
The woman was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the woman has not been disclosed at this time. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been travelling at an unsafe speed.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Chevy was stationary due to heavy traffic, and the driver’s impairment does not seem to have contributed to the fatal crash.
The police investigated whether drugs or alcohol were involved in this collision.
