The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon. The accident happened close to Grapeview at around 3:30 p.m. The collision involves only one vehicle.

The 67-year-old Tacoma man was driving erratically when he crossed into oncoming traffic, according to WSP trooper Katherine Weatherwax. He then continued on, crashing into a tree and other roadside debris on the other side of the highway. Then, his vehicle caught fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been made public yet.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the fatal crash. For a while, both lanes of traffic were stopped, and the Department of Transportation helped set up alternate routes.
