The Irvine Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Sunday evening. The accident happened at around 5:15 p.m.
According to Lt. Ryan Coe, the woman, 67 was travelling south on Tustin Ranch Road while passing through Barranca Parkway. The victim’s vehicle was struck by the suspect, a 25-year-old Santa Ana resident who was driving west at 80 mph on Barranca Parkway and ran a red light.
The Irvine woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the suspect and victim were both in critical condition at the hospital.
Speed and alcohol were both factors in the fatal crash, according to Coe.
