In a tragic motor vehicle accident near Sand Canyon on Saturday, 66-year-old Patrick Wayne Verhagen from Tehachapi lost his life in a vehicle crash, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Verhagen was traveling eastbound on Messite Road when his vehicle left the roadway, went down an embankment, and collided with several trees. Ejected during the crash and not wearing a seatbelt, Verhagen was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office, alongside the California Highway Patrol, is investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
