According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Sunday evening in Oakland. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred on the Fruitvale Avenue on-ramp to westbound Interstate 580. A Volkswagen Beetle rear-ended another vehicle.
The driver of the Beetle was identified as 66-year-old Julie Johnson. Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital due to blunt-force trauma.
The cause of the accident has been identified as excessive speed. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision as well.
The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP. there are no other details available at this time.
