The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle accident in Hockley County on Thursday. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 62, six miles north of Ropesville at around 4:45 p.m.
According to the officials, an SUV was involved in the collision. The SUV was headed southwest on the highway when it swerved right. This caused it to veer across the road and into the west ditch. The vehicle then rolled over several times before coming to a rest upside down.
One of the passengers was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have since identified the victim as 66-year-old Daniel Alvarado.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
