Authorities identified 66-year-old Dana Cheer as the man who lost his life and 82-year-old Gary Troxel, of Mount Vernon, as the man who suffered injuries following a two-vehicle collision on May 26th in Sedro-Woolley.
The fatal car crash took place on State Route 20 and Helmick Road at about 1:31 p.m. According to the investigation reports, 77-year-old Ernest Cheer, of Sedro-Woolley, was traveling Eastbound on State Route 20 near Helmick Road in a silver 2010 Chevy Equinox.
Cheer tried to make a left turn onto Helmick Road when he failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of a Westbound 2011 Toyota Tacoma being driven by 82-year old Gary Troxel. Cheer remained unharmed in the accident, but a passenger in his vehicle, 66-year old Dana Cheer, also of Sedro-Woolley, sustained serious injuries.
He was flown by air medical helicopter to Providence Regional Medical Center. Dana Cheer reportedly succumbed to his injuries on June 4th, 2022. Troxel was also taken to United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley with unspecified injuries.
According to the officials, all three men were buckled up at the time of the collision. Both vehicles were wrecked and impounded for safe keeping by Carl’s Towing. The cause of the accident is listed as Failure to Yield Right of Way. No further details were provided.
The crash remains under review.
