Authorities identified 65-year-old William Dixon, Jr. and 57-year-old Lori Courtney, both from Las Cruces, New Mexico, as the victims who lost their lives and 43-year-old Freddie Brown, Jr., of Chicago, as the victim who suffered injuries following a traffic collision Monday afternoon in Abilene.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle wreck took place shortly after 4:00 p.m. at mile marker 292 on I-20 in which an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck were involved. The preliminary investigation showed that 43-year-old Freddie Brown, Jr. was heading west on Interstate 20 when their semi-truck went off the roadway and swerved into the center median, into oncoming eastbound traffic.
The driver of the pickup truck, William Dixon, Jr., and passenger, Lori Courtney, were both declared deceased at the scene by the officials. It was initially reported that all three people involved in the accident had died. Officials later confirmed that the driver of the semi-truck, Freddie Brown, Jr., is in critical condition at this time. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under investigation.
