The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident early Thursday morning. The accident happened at around 12:25 a.m. The collision involves only one vehicle.
In Thurston County, Thomas A Gairns, 65 of Olympia was approaching Old Olympic Highway while driving south in his 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck. He then allegedly drove to the left, crossed the northbound lanes and the cable barrier, and struck a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the officials as he had incurred fatal injuries.
State troopers think that the accident may have been caused by drugs or alcohol. Following the fatal crash, the road was closed for about three hours.
