The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a fatal crash occurred on IH-20 in Reeves County, a few miles southwest of Toyah.
A preliminary investigation into the multi-vehicle accident determined that a 65-year-old Johnny Leeallen Triplett was traveling westbound on IH-20 near mile marker 3. The second driver in another vehicle, Jerry Don Scroggins, 48, was also traveling westbound and stopped in the right lane due to backed-up traffic on the roadway.
Triplett failed to control his speed, struck Scroggins from the rear, and was pronounced dead on the scene. No additional information regarding the condition of the Scroggins was provided by the officials.
