The Jacksonville Police Department had previously reported a motor vehicle accident last Wednesday. The accident occurred on the Union Pacific Railway line west of U.S. Highway 69.
According to the officials, a woman had been walking east on the tracks when she either ignored or didn’t hear the warning horn blasts the train was giving as it approached her. She did not move in time and was hit by the train. The train came to a stop after the crash.
The woman was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have reported that the victim was identified as 65-year-old Guillmerina Vera Perez.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or rugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
