A woman lost her life in a tragic hit-and-run accident on Tuesday in northeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department. The fatal crash occurred around 6:05 p.m. in the 7200 block of Lyons Avenue.
The victim, identified as Georgia Salas, 65, was walking on the sidewalk. Police reported that a silver Nissan Rogue exiting a private parking lot struck Salas. Despite efforts by paramedics, Salas succumbed to her injuries after being transported to an area hospital.
The driver, identified as Nicolas Lopez Martinez, 50, fled the scene but was later apprehended and charged with failure to render aid. Martinez has been booked into the Harris County Jail, with additional charges pending as the investigation progresses.
