A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Tuesday. A 63-year-old woman lost her life in a collision between her car and a train. For reasons under investigation, the victim stopped at a railroad crossing and was struck by an Amtrak train.
The fatal crash transpired around 10:40 a.m. at the crossing located at North Lewis Road and Upland Road. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train, heading southbound, collided with the stationary vehicle despite the conductor’s emergency braking efforts.
The impact pushed the car into the signal control box. Fire crews extricated the woman from the mangled vehicle, but she was critically injured. She was flown to a local hospital, but later succumbed.
The incident prompted track closures affecting both Amtrak and Metrolink traffic between Moorpark and Camarillo.
