A tragic motor vehicle accident unfolded on Sunday night when a 63-year-old San Diego resident lost her life and a 10-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in a car crash off State Route 15, near Interstate 805, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The woman was driving a blue Ford Fusion south on the freeway around 9 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, she lost control. The car veered off the road, struck a sign, overturned down an embankment, and collided with a tree.
Emergency crews had to extricate both occupants from the wreckage. The woman was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, and the boy was transported to the hospital with major injuries. The identity of the woman is not yet known at this time.
The cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
