The WSP has completed its investigation into the fatal car crash that killed 63-year-old Maria Diaz De Benitez and 54-year-old Andres Cabrales on I-82, roughly eight miles south of Kennewick.
The fatal incident took place at about 6 a.m. Thursday. Authorities have found that the driver and passenger were going eastbound on I-82 near milepost 121 when the SUV went off the roadway. According to investigators, the driver overcorrected and collided with the guardrail. As per reports, the vehicle then flipped over the guardrail, went down an embankment and came to a stop upside down.
Both the victims were declared dead at the crash scene. The driver has been identified as Maria Diaz De Benitez, 63, a resident of Umatilla, and the passenger was Andres Cabrales, 54, of Hermiston. Authorities have notified the next of kin for both the victims.
