The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Thursday evening. The accident happened on northbound Interstate 215 at Scott Rd at around 10 p.m.
Paz was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry that came to a stop when motorway construction caused traffic to stop. A 61-year-old Murrieta woman was travelling north in her 2019 Dodge Ram pickup and failed to stop when the cars in front of her applied the brakes.
The Dodge rear-ended the Toyota at a high speed, severely damaging it and sending it careening. A 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer came to rest beneath the Toyota.
She was declared dead on the spot. Both the Nissan driver and the truck driver were unharmed. The Dodge driver was hurt but not seriously enough to go to the hospital.
Due to the fatal crash, all northbound lanes of the motorway were closed for more than three hours.
