62-year-old Kris H Doyle dead, 2 children hospitalized after a rear-end collision in Rains County (Rains County, TX)

Authorities identified 62-year-old Kris H Doyle, from Emory, as the man who lost his life following a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Rains County.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at around 12:41 p.m. on FM 2324, approximately four miles southwest of Emory. The investigation reports showed that Kris H Doyle was driving a 2005 Kia Spectra east on FM 2324 when he slowed to make a left turn into a private drive. At that point of time, 31-year-old Maria L Colunga, of Emory, was driving behind him in a 2011 Nissan Frontier.

Colunga reportedly failed to control her speed, and her vehicle slammed into the back of Doyle’s Kia. Justice of the Peace Jenkins Franklin declared Doyle dead at the scene. Colunga remained unharmed in the wreck. Her passengers, including an 11-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were transported to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital with unspecified injuries. Doyle was buckled up at the time of the collision. No one in Colunga’s vehicle was wearing their seatbelts at that time. No further details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
