In a tragic incident on Sunday night, a collision between a semi-truck and a passenger car claimed the life of a Ralls man east of Idalou. The multi-vehicle accident occurred around 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 62 and FM 789.
According to the crash investigation report, the semi-truck was operated by 63-year-old Eliopoldo Cazares Nieves. It was heading west on US-62. Upon reaching CR 3800, it made a left turn and came to a halt with its rear end protruding into the eastbound lanes.
A passenger car was approaching the intersection in the right lane. It was driven by a 62-year-old man, identified as James Gillon, who collided with the right side of the semi.
Tragically, Gillon was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the fatal crash site. It was reported that he was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the semi emerged from the incident unharmed.
