A tragic two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 60-year-old Edinburg man, Jose Refugio Ramirez, on Wednesday night in San Juan, as reported by the Texas DPS. The fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred around 9:30 p.m., January 31, on U.S. 281, west of Farm-to-Market Road 2557 or South Stewart Road.
Ramirez, driving a red Chevrolet Uplander, failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, attempting a left turn onto U.S. 281. Unfortunately, he collided with a green International Prostar truck towing a silver Truxton tanker, transporting petroleum.
Tragically, Ramirez was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was transported to South Texas Health System McAllen with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers are investigating the fatal crash.
