On Wednesday morning, 60-year-old Emmett Hewlett and his 63-year-old passenger lost their lives following a two-vehicle accident in Nashville.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported at about 10:15 a.m. on Murfreesboro Pike near Briley Parkway at Pineway Drive. The preliminary investigation showed that Hewlett was attempting to turn left (outbound) on Murfreesboro Pike from the Arlington United Methodist Church parking lot. Just then, an inbound Volkswagen Passat crashed into his Toyota Corolla on the driver’s side.

On arrival, medical personnel rushed three people from both vehicles to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in serious condition. Emmett Hewlett and his 63-year-old female passenger succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital while the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen sustained non-fatal injuries. The identity of the woman will be revealed once the next of kin is notified.

According to the authorities, the initial contributing factor to the deadly accident seems to be the Toyota’s failure to yield to the Volkswagen. Murfreesboro Pike at Pineway Drive was shut down in both directions as crews worked at the scene. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation is continuing.
