Antonio Rogelio Saenz Jr., 23, has been arrested on a charge of criminal negligence homicide in connection with a fatal cyclist crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The bicycle accident occurred on January 3 on FM 732, north of US 281. A preliminary investigation revealed that a cyclist, identified as 59-year-old Rodrigo Villarreal of San Benito, was traveling northbound on FM 732, followed by a black Honda Civic driven by Saenz.
The Honda collided with the cyclist, causing him to go airborne and land on the windshield. Villarreal was critically injured and was pronounced dead at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Saenz has been booked into the Cameron County Detention Center pending arraignment.
