59-year-old Robert Ranusch Jr. killed after a car went into St. Clair River (St. Clair County, MI)

Authorities identified 59-year-old Robert Ranusch Jr., of Clinton Township, as the man who lost his life after his vehicle went into the St. Clair River on Sunday night in St. Clair County.

The fatal single-vehicle crash took place on Riverside Drive shortly before 7:30 p.m. According to the investigation reports, the man drove through the parking lot of the Voyageur restaurant before smashing through the railing by the water.

The St. Clair County Dive Team was requested at the scene but they were not able to save the man pinned inside his sunken Jeep. The man, identified as 59-year-old Robert Ranusch Jr., was pulled from the river at 8:05 p.m. and rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. No further details were provided.

An investigation continues.
