The Police Department reports a motor vehicle crash in Springfield.
The crash happened on LA 42 close to Giles Rd at around 9:00 p.m.
On LA 42, a 2018 Mazda 3 was moving toward the east.
Perry Winder, 59 who was at the scene riding a Schwinn bicycle, had just made a left turn from Giles Road onto LA 42 when the Mazda was struck.
Winder, who was not wearing a safety helmet and whose bicycle lacked lights, was seriously hurt and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away.
There is no reason to believe the Mazda’s driver is impaired.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the police.
