Authorities identified 59-year-old Lenh C Vong, of Kaplan, as the woman who lost her life and 33-year-old Jessica Rodriguez, of Rayne, as the woman who received injuries following a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday in Lafayette Parish.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported just after 4:30 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 343 near Moon Court Road. The early reports showed that Vong was heading north on LA 343 in a 2022 Honda Accord. As she slowed to make a right turn into a private driveway, her vehicle was hit from behind by a 2018 Dodge Durango being driven by 33-year-old Jessica Rodriguez.
After crashing into the Accord, both vehicles veered off the roadway. Vong was reportedly buckled up at the time of the accident and she suffered critical injuries. On arrival, emergency personnel rushed her to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Rodriguez was not wearing a seatbelt at that time. She incurred only minimal injuries and was taken to a local hospital and treated before being released.
Standard toxicology results are pending for Vong at this time, officials mentioned. Rodriguez gave a breath sample which showed no alcohol present and she did not display any signs of impairment. Authorities confirmed a citation against her for LA RS 32:58 Careless Operation and LA RS 32:295.1 No Seat Belt. No other details are made available.
