A tragic fatal crash unfolded west of Deming, New Mexico, as a truck driver lost his life in a collision on Friday, January 26, during Interstate 10’s temporary closure for power line maintenance, according to New Mexico State Police.
At approximately 1 p.m., a 2021 Volvo commercial truck, driven by 58-year-old Chunnan Huang of Buena Park, California, failed to reduce its speed while traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 59.
The Volvo collided with another commercial truck that was stationary. Huang was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the rear-ended truck, a 32-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital with an unknown condition.
Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor, and investigations into the circumstances of the multi-vehicle accident are ongoing.
