On Saturday, 57-year-old Rhonda Noyes, from Shreveport, lost her life while 60-year-old Darryl Betford, of Mansfield, suffered injuries following a single-vehicle accident in DeSoto Parish.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported shortly after 3:00 p.m., on LA Hwy 5, near Dickson Lane. The early reports showed that a 2006 Saturn Ion, driven by 60-year-old Darryl Betford, was traveling south on LA Hwy 5 when Betford exited the roadway to the right, where he over-corrected.
After that, the Saturn went across the roadway, where it entered the ditch and hit a tree. Noyes, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected as she was not wearing a seatbelt at that time. Betford was buckled up at the time of the collision. On arrival, emergency crews took him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Noyes was rushed to DeSoto Regional Medical Center, where she was later declared dead. Impairment is not suspected to be involved in the accident; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. No other details are made available.
The incident remains under investigation.
