The Amarillo Police Department has released details on a Thursday morning hit and run crash that claimed the life of a man. Officials state that the incident took place at Dumas Highway and Cherry Avenue and involved a semi-truck.
Officers responded to the scene around 12:40 a.m. after a call about a pedestrian accident. Emergency personnel were already present but were unable to save 57-year-old, identified as Allen Gonzales, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to a witness, a friend of the victim’s, they were at the location to retrieve items from Gonzales’ broken-down vehicle when the semi-truck struck him and then left the scene.
