On Thursday, 55-year-old Vonda S Roberson, from Vader, lost her life following a two-vehicle accident south of Toppenish.

The fatal semi-truck crash took place on LaRue Road at about 5:12 a.m. The preliminary investigation showed that Vonda S Roberson was driving a 2020 Frontline Truck hauling a trailer west when she did not stop at the U.S. Highway 97 intersection a mile south of Toppenish and her vehicle crashed into a 2003 Kenworth traveling north on the highway. Roberson was rushed to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, where she was later declared dead.

The Kenworth’s driver, 57-year-old Russell W Krusow of Goldendale, remained uninjured. Both trucks and their trailers were wrecked as a result of the accident. U.S. 97 south of Toppenish was shut down for several hours as crews worked at the scene. U.S. 97 was back open to traffic at 3 p.m. Intoxication was not believed to be involved in the crash. Both drivers were buckled up at the time of the collision. No other details are available.
