A tragic head-on fatal crash southwest of Abilene on Thursday afternoon resulted in the death of Richard Walker, 55, of Abilene. According to Texas Dept. of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, Walker was driving a 2015 Kia Soul southbound on FM-707, nearing the intersection of CR-314.
Simultaneously, Kenneth Oneal, 79, of Abilene, was northbound on FM-707 in a 2002 Ford SUV, approaching the same intersection. The DPS investigation revealed that Oneal’s SUV failed to yield the right of way, turning into the path of Walker’s Kia and causing a head-on collision.
Unfortunately, Walker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was critically injured and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Walker’s passenger, Cheyarle Lopez, 40, suffered serious injuries, while Oneal, who was wearing a seatbelt, escaped injury. The multi-vehicle accident remains under investigation.
