According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Monday in Merced. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident. Authorities stated that the collision occurred on Highway 99 north of O Street.
The driver of a Chevy Tahoe tried to pass a big rig on a narrow shoulder. As a result of this, he got stuck between the big rig and the guard rail, which forced the big rig to jackknife and overturn.
The unidentified 55-year-old driver of the big rig was pinned in and declared dead at the scene of the wreck. The driver of the Chevy was identified as 35-year-old Anthony Carrasco. Carassco did not sustain any injuries as a result of the wreck and was booked for DUI.
The cause of the accident has been identified as alcohol. The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
