A 54-year-old local woman lost her life and a 24-year-old man from Sacramento received major injuries after a wrong-way crash Tuesday morning in Ocean Beach.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-car collision took place on Interstate 8. The preliminary reports showed that a 24-year-old man was driving a Subaru Outback east on the westbound side of Interstate 8 when his car crashed into a Toyota Camry driven by a 54-year-old woman at 11:24 p.m. Monday.
The reports further stated that 22 personnel, including two medics and one rescue crew were sent to the scene, and the county medical examiner was requested to the scene at around 12:15 a.m. The woman was declared dead at the scene while the man was immediately taken to a hospital.
He was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and will be taken into custody after being released from the hospital. Authorities blocked westbound lanes of I-8 and redirected traffic to Sports Arena Boulevard from midnight until 3:48 a.m. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
