Tragedy struck in the Indio area as a hit-and-run claimed the life of a 54-year-old bicyclist on Thursday night. The hit-and-run accident occurred around 11:35 p.m. on Grapefruit Boulevard, north of Palm Street, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
An unidentified vehicle travelling southbound on Grapefruit Boulevard collided with the cyclist, who was also heading southbound. The impact left the bicyclist in the roadway, where a second vehicle collided with him.
The driver of the second vehicle, having stopped at the scene, promptly called 911 to report the fatal crash. The victim was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are currently searching for the elusive motorist and vehicle.
