On Thursday afternoon, a 54-year-old man suffered injuries after being hit by a semi-truck north of Spring Lake.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the southbound lanes of US-31 south of Taft Street a little before 2 PM after getting reports of an auto-pedestrian collision. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 1999 Jeep, driven by a 54-year-old man from Holton, was southbound on US-31 and had just passed Taft Street when his vehicle ran off the roadway and hit a tree.
The driver was not hurt in this accident and then came out of his vehicle. While being offered help from bystanders, the driver walked into the far left southbound lane of US-31 and got hit by a semi-truck. On arrival, emergency crews rushed the man to Mercy Health Muskegon with serious injuries. The semi driver, a 44-year-old Zeeland man, remained uninjured. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation is ongoing.
