54-year-old Kimberly Denney died, Derrick Babbitt, Bethany Lankford and 2 children injured in a crash (Lafayette, TN)

Authorities identified 54-year-old Kimberly Denney, from Lebanon, as the woman who lost her life following a single-vehicle crash that caused injuries to 31-year-old Derrick Babbitt, 27-year-old Bethany Lankford and two children on Tuesday in Macon County.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place on SR-10/Hartsville Road at about 7:45 p.m. The preliminary reports showed that an Infiniti sedan with five people inside was heading south on SR-10/Hartsville Road when, for unknown reasons, it ran off the roadway and slid down a deep embankment. The car crashed into a dirt bank, causing it to roll multiple times before coming to rest.

Two people were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Kimberly Denney died as a result of the accident. Three passengers, Derrick Babbitt and two small children, ages 3 and 9, had to be flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver, 27-year-old Bethany Lankford, was transported to Macon Community Hospital with minimal injuries. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
