Officials identified 54-year-old Deadra Hughes, of Anaheim, as the woman who lost her life after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported at around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday on the eastbound freeway near Valley Way. Deadra Hughes was driving her Nissan Rogue in the No. 3 lane when she approached a UPS big rig going 55 to 60 mph in front of her. Hughes reportedly did not have her headlights activated as she closed in on the truck.

The front of the Nissan crashed into the rear of the UPS tractor. The Nissan then swerved across all traffic lanes, hit the median wall and came to a stop in the HOV lane. The trucker, who was not harmed, immediately stopped and called 911 for help.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene within a few minutes and performed life-saving measures on Hughes, who was then rushed to Riverside Community Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries a half-hour later. The eastbound side of the freeway was partially blocked for several hours during the investigation. No other details are available.

An investigation is continuing.
