On Saturday, 53-year-old Isidro A Padilla, a Kaplan man, lost his life and five others suffered injuries after a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 13 in Acadia Parish.
Officers got the news of the crash just after 11:00 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 13 at Louisiana Highway 92 on E. Whitney Street. As per the reports, a vehicle was traveling west on LA 92 when the driver failed to yield at the stop sign and broadsided another vehicle that was going north on LA 13. After the crash, the vehicle in which Padilla was a passenger rolled on its side. Padilla was a rear seat passenger and was partly ejected from the vehicle as a result of the collision.
Padilla was not reportedly wearing his seatbelt and died of his injuries at the scene. Five other occupants were taken to a local hospital with moderate to serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash and his passenger were properly restrained and remained uninjured. Standard toxicology results are pending at this time; however impairment is not believed to be involved in the accident.
An investigation is continuing.
