The Kern County Coroner’s office identified the pedestrian who was hit by a semi-truck and was killed in the motor vehicle accident on Highway 99 near Rosedale Highway.
Vielka Eleanor Gerardo, a 52-year-old woman, was struck by a 2023 Peterbilt. This is because the driver of the vehicle couldn’t see the woman in the darkness.
Furthermore, there was a huge rig on the left side leaving no option for the driver but to hit Gerardo. Gerardo incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known if the driver of the Peterbilt was injured in the collision.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. There are no further details available at the moment.
