52-year-old Jason Gilbert dead after a traffic accident in St. Charles Parish (Paradis, LA)

Authorities identified 52-year-old Jason Gilbert, of Gray, as the man who lost his life following a single-vehicle crash in St. Charles Parish.

As per the initial information, the fatal semi-truck accident was reported just after 8:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 90 at Louisiana Highway 306 (Bayou Gauche Road). The preliminary investigation showed that a loaded 2007 Kenworth 18-wheeler was heading east on U.S. 90 when it pulled over at a red light at the LA 306 intersection.

As the semi stopped, the heavy load moved into the cab after the restraining straps broke due to the weight and momentum. Gilbert sustained major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Impairment on the part of Gilbert is unclear at this time and routine toxicology results are pending. No other details are available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
