Authorities identified 51-year-old Fredrick Eric Walter, of Bridge City, as the man who lost his life following a single-vehicle accident on Saturday in Westwego.

The fatal car crash was reported just after 1:00 am on US 90 near Circle West Drive. According to the investigation reports, Walter was driving a 2016 Honda Accord west on US 90 in the city limits of Westwego. An Officer from the Westwego Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the Honda. Walter did not stop and drove away, initiating a chase.

Walter continued going west on US 90 at a high rate of speed. As his car approached the area of Circle West Drive, he failed to maintain control of his vehicle as a result of which the car went off the right side of the roadway before rolling multiple times. Walter, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was ejected from the car.

He died of his injuries after the crash. The front seat passenger was buckled up and incurred only minimal injuries. According to the authorities, impairment on the part of Walter is suspected and routine toxicology results are pending. No other details are immediately available.

The crash remains under review.
